HALO 4: FORWARD UNTO DAWN: 2012:--:ACT: I noticed this movie on Netflix the other day and being a fan of the game, I had to watch it. Expecting a watered down version with little relevance to the actual award winning game, I was surprised to see that it was very well done.
Not only did it capture some of the mystique of the Master Chief character, it also did an excellent job of making the aliens seem pretty intimidating. The scenes where they are attacking the base and sneaking up on the cadets was very true to the game and suspenseful.
Master Chief looked very convincing
The pacing in the movie was a little slow in the beginning, relying on character development during their training, it developed well at the end because you cared about the characters. It had a little of Full Metal Jacket inspiration which worked well. The actors in this movie are not instantly recognizable which gave the movie a realistic feel. They seemed like cadets going through training.
The drill sergeant does some insulting
The movie climaxes well when "it's no longer a drill" and the best part is when..well I won't spoil it. The vehicles looked great, the weaponry was exact to the game, and the aliens, again, looked unreal. The plasma sword never looked better!
This part will make any hardcore Halo fan rejoice!
Forward unto Dawn incorporated many of the elements of the game while still making an engaging movie that makes you want to pick up the game again. 87%
