CHAPPIE VS AUTOMATA: New Update Below..
Well, I must say, absence makes the heart grow fonder. Or is it Absinthe makes the eye stray yonder? I'm not sure, but not putting some posts for awhile has caused some hate mail.. I'm not sure if it's "hey, keep writing your blog we like it" or..."hey, write posts or you get OWNAGE..."

BUT either way, I will continue.
How is everyone? Hopefully everyone is fine and not having bad dreams! I, of course, have been, but that's the fun. I won't even regale you with these as they are personal of nature..
AND.. I might add, that I found the PERFECT recipe for the PERFECT horror nightmare..EAT COOKIES right before BED!!!!!!!!
ANYWAY.
I have been watching movies, so if movie "reviews" are your main concern, well fine.
Chappie, directed by Neil Blomkamp, starred Hugh Jackman, finally portraying a "bad guy" so all the girls can't swoon over him. Seriously stop! "Oh he's so good looking!" "Oh, he's so handsome!" I won't even get into the rumors, that's another blog..
Chappie is an original Sci-Fi flick that everyone should see because it's original (somewhat) and didn't have to rely on sappy emotionalism to make an impact. In some ways ET and Short Circuit, it was genuinely a great movie and one that will be mentioned for awhile.
Aww, he has a bandanna on!
Chappie is a great "date movie" and will please. There is literally nothing wrong with the movie. It has action, suspense, and romance, well sort of..
"Mommy and Daddy"
Not too long, not too short like your favorite firecracker..
IT aims to please. What really impressed me about the movie was the bold stance it had on AI and consciousness. I would go on and on about how this movie nailed action sequences "like here" and here, but what struck me about this movie was how it WILL ruffle feathers in some communities who will think that consciousness is not something that you can download...like a program..or like a computer virus.
Long story short, and I won't give the movie away as I never do, Chappie cheats death, and the subsequent death of others, by figuring out how to rig multiple PS4s...shameless commercialism plug..YOU SHOULD BE EMBARRASSED..by "Saving" someone's soul..
This is a horrible thought..Am I wrong?
Review after review and it's the same crap. No one really realizes this message. It's pretty big. Watch it again.
Chappie revitalizes people's souls after he perfects the program that he makes because he himself is mortal. This is also a first. A robot who has mortality. If it's not..send me a message and we'll discuss..Hint.. it's not the first time a movie has dealt with this...
As is the vogue now, to "Revitalize" old movie plots and schemes..such as The Lazarus Effect which was a shameless remake of Pet Semetary, Lucy, and Akira, it becomes obvious that Hollywood has some issues with new themes.
Not horrible but not great..She was the only reason to watch..
Which movie is better? Chappie or Insurgent? Is the music of real life couple, South African duo..something and something good enough..note I will not mention them in this blog..
OMG FRIGGING GOD>>>ARE YOU SERIOUS??
See for yourself!
OK, they aren't bad.
YES THEY ARE!!
I might add..This BEAT?? is ripped off from Plastikman..they must have paid him A LOT!!!
Automata: 2014: Sci-Fi: NEW ADDITION: UPDATED!!

What interested me about this movie was that Antonio Banderas was in it after some time off. Kind of like me with this blog!
Also, his wife Melanie Griffith made an appearance. This movie deals with the scenario of artificial intelligence and its ramifications on mankind in a touching way. Can robots feel? Do robots dread dying?
To die you have to be alive!
This isn't a new conundrum nor is it a novel topic in movies, but I did appreciate the new take on it. I find fascinating the concept of humans finding robots appealing. I myself have fallen "in love" with some of my machines. It's not what your thinking..get your mind out of the gutter..
Ahh, the MPC4000, one of my first computer loves..
And you can't forget about the Kaoss pad.
The quintessential love
Seriously, though, Automata tackles some tough concepts and does it with finesse. Not quite Terminator, not quite Bladerunner, it does deal with the question of the moment artificial intelligence get's the boost it needs to become "aware".
No we can't go out tonight, maybe tomorrow ok?
Oh, ok, put your blue hair on and we'll dance!
There was a kind of love affair in this movie between Cleo, the female robot shown above, and Antonio's character. It wasn't half bad either. I bet Melanie was a bit jealous..
Who is prettier Antonio, me or her..?
So this movie didn't get the "Hollywood" treatment with South African rappers and so what it didn't have all the glitz and glimmer of Chappie, but it did have heart. Chappie did too, but this was a little more mature..
THIS SCENE IS SOMEWHAT TOUCHING>>
OK, all sappiness aside, there was action and I loved the ending in this movie. It's not quite good enough to debunk Chappie, but it did a pretty good job trying: 79%
BUT Wait.. THERE'S MORE>>>

THE MACHINE: 2013: SCI-FI:
ok...you'll have to wait..watch it and then read my rating. hint ITS GOOD.
WATCH A PREVIEW
Ahh, it's so nice to be back from limbo. It was very relaxing, and yes it was nice to avoid dealing with the banalities of everyday life such as breathing and appeasing the constant desire to eat.
Anyway, things should get back to normal, and they will. The Machine, directed by Caradog James, is a movie to see especially if the understated sentimentality of Automata struck home.
Similar in many ways, they have the instant accessibility that draws a viewer in while holding them back to a certain degree until the climax. The Machine was definitely darker and for this reason gains my admiration. The writing was a little simplistic at times, but one can argue that this is because some of the dialogue originates from an AI/ android learning English.
It's not easy being human.
There are many subtle uses of symbolism in The Machine, as well as parallelism, but what really struck me was the clever use of foreshadowing. It's not so much that I knew what was going to happen, it was who I wanted to see how it happened.
Don't look too deep into the scope, or you might see something you dread.
It's hard not to acknowledge movies that have dealt with artificial intelligence, self awareness, and cognition in robots/ androids, but The Machine surprised me. The chemistry between leads Caity Lotz and Sam Halzedine was excellent and they did a great job of make me care about their outcomes.
She glows because she cares.
This reminded me a lot of Ghost in the Shell Mamouro Oshii's anime masterpiece, but it had enough action, romance, and special effects to win my vote for the best of three.
Although the ending was a little cliche, it did leave you thinking. There was a great action sequence at the end so this should satisfy some of the more jaded sci-fi enthusiasts out there while also providing some excellent cuddle inducing material.
