I opted not write anything during that period because this blog is supposed to make people want to watch movies instead of slamming movies, although sometimes that treatment is warranted.
I ended up watching a lot of documentaries in the meantime and some were better than others. Some that stood out were American Wastelands, Chasing Ice, Black Fish, Modern Marvels, On Death Row, Nuclear America, 30 for 30, Fahrenheit 9/11 and others.
Also, something that I noticed when I was watching horror movies exclusively, especially psychological and paranormal horror movies, was that the bar was raised in terms of what I sought from a movie.
Watching those movies for more than 2 months definitely influenced the way I watched movies for awhile. I'm talking about real horror movies like Insidious, The Inn, Graveyard Shift, The Pact, The Cabin the Woods, The Last Possession, The Conjuring, Ju-On, The Exorcist III and IV, Paranormal Activity, and the Mouth of Madness. Many of these have been reviewed here, and the ones that haven't will be soon.
Try watching only horror movies, real horror movies, for 2 or more months straight, every night. Overall, they bring a certain visceral reaction that I found difficult to get from other movies. I plan to complete my analysis of all horror movies and put in another long, 3 month session, but after this summer. That should be fun..the goal will be to examine how the mind and viewership responds to horror and frightening situations in movies.
I did start to watch some better than average movies, even in the Hollywood sector, so I decided to continue to write some more reviews.
So let's get to some of the better movies of the summer thus far, and also some of the flops, that were pretty predicable flops...
