BARRICADE: 2012: Horror: Sometimes a movie will just not make a lot of sense. To say that Barricade was one of those types of movies was a gross understatement. Just a warning, this was made by WWE studios..Yes The WWE as in wrestling..
Where am I? Is this a movie? What's going on?
While there were some elements of suspense when the family, sans mom, try to enjoy their Christmas holiday in a secluded cabin, it simply didn't connect in any meaningful way. Yes, I am trying to review horror movies with Christmas elements in them to try to stay in the spirit and I thought this movie had promise. I was seriously mistaken.
Why did we make this movie?
I will admit that there were some good scares in the movie (like when the eyes show up in the window and the ghost in the kitchen) but once the movie resolves itself, it makes little to no sense and therefore ceases to be scary or leave any lasting impression as good horror movies do. A proper horror movie makes you think about it as you are going to sleep and keeps you up at night. This one put me to sleep after a few poorly executed scares.
Note this isn't the trailer, but one of the scarier parts in the movie
in the kitchen. Once again, though, it loses it's impact later on.
The plot is ridiculous and even lifts concepts and actual scenes from The Shining, especially in the opening sequences where it uses a helicopter to follow their car through mountainous, curvy rounds.
Yes, this type of scene was ripped off in Barricade.
This is sacred ground and should never be attempted, especially
how poorly it was in this farce.
Shame on you director Andrew Currie. Not only are you taking your viewers' intelligence for granted, but you tastelessly ripped off one of the best horror movies of all time for this trash of a movie.
She either died of boredom or sheer shock at the poor quality of
this movie.
To make matters worse the ending is really abrupt and gives little to no buildup. It just ends.
One of the only other scary parts of the movie.
The attempt to leave the viewer with a sense of disbelief or not knowing what truly happens in the movie is absurd. The two options are that the main character either has a fever and was hallucinating the events in the house, or they were happening and it's haunted.
Woops, that's Barricade the Transformer..
You don't really care what happened in this movie do you?
Nope..
The one positive is that it wasn't too long. So if you want to watch an anticlimactic horror movie with some suspense that just lets you down, see it....59%
Personally, I would rather have a root canal done..
Ahh, the suspense... and at least I know how it will turn out and maybe
get some Tylenol with codeine! YUMMY
